Abstract: In an effort to elucidate the onset of pronounced axial symmetry in post-AGB stars and preplanetary nebulae, we have begun employing a variety of high- spatial-resolution observational techniques. Here we report our initial set of diffraction-limited mid-infrared observations of two objects with the Keck Telescope: AFGL 2688 and IRAS 22272+5435. The emitting dust in both of these objects, while axisymmetric to first order, shows deviations from axisymmetry which can be compared to observations at other wavelengths.
