Abstract: In this paper, I review the evidence that the global O/H gradients in galaxies with strong bars are flatter than those of normal or weakly barred spirals. Breaks in the O/H gradients seen in some barred spirals are presented and explained in the context of young bars. Mixing in the bar region as well as the azimuthal O/H scatter in barred galaxies are also discussed. It is concluded that large-scale gas flows induced by bars play an important role in the chemical evolution of galactic systems.
