Abstract: Morphological studies of galaxies often require that an image be cleaned of all field star. We have used the star cleaning program, PATCH, which we describe here, to clean a variety of images. This patch program works best on smooth and slowly varying backgrounds. We illustrate our success on NGC 4622 which is of particular interest as it is a candidate leading-arm galaxy. In the case of NGC 4622 we had to remove a star located on the steep intensity gradient that is the nucleus. Here we describe our efforts with the DAOPHOT PSF fitting routines now available in IRAF to remove this problem star. IRAF is distributed by National Optical Astronomy Observatories, which is operated by AURA, Inc., under cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation. CTIO is operated by AURA, Inc. under contract to the National Science Foundation.
