Abstract: We have carried out a spectral line survey toward the spiral arm of M51 with the IRAM 30 m telescope, and have detected 13 molecular species. The excitation temperatures of the molecules are evaluated to be less than 10 K. This observation delineates the chemical compositions averaged over GMCs in the spiral arm for the first time. Based on this spectral line survey, we have conducted imaging observations of CH3OH, CS, CN, HNCO, C18O and 13CO with the CARMA interferometer. Distributions of molecules are found to be different from molecule to molecule at the 6” scale, although the different two positions observed with the IRAM 30 m telescope (20”–30” have very similar chemical compositions.
