Abstract: The 1985 outburst of RS Oph was the only one observed throughout the event at both low and high resolution in the range 1200 - 3000Å by the IUE satellite. This is the portion of the spectrum that contains the principal plasma diagnostic transitions for the interaction of the ejecta and the wind of the companion red giant. This short review highlights some of the principal results from that multiwavelength campaign as a stage-setting contribution to the workshop.
