Abstract: We present initial results from a wide field photometric survey of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxy, concentrating on a small overdensity of stars located approximately 15′ (500 pc in projection) from the centre of Fornax. An analysis of two sets of CCD data in four bands implies the clump has a luminosity of ∼103 Msolar and is ∼2 Gyr old. Our preferred interpretation is that the overdensity represents a merger between Fornax and a smaller, gas-rich system that occurred approximately 2 Gyr ago.
