COST
ESTIMATE SHEET:
1. PRINTING COSTS:
Printing costs for ASP Conference
Series books are normally priced by the number of volumes sold rather than
pages printed. The base cost per volume to conference participants is $55.
To ensure that Publisher costs are met, Editors must guarantee a minimum
number of volumes will be sold to conference participants or to the conference
itself for each volume length, according to the following formula:
70
to 100 copies = 450 pages
maximum
101
to 150 copies = 600 pages maximum
151
to 200 copies = 750 pages maximum
over 200 copies = 850
pages maximum
The cost of pages in excess of the
maximum may be purchased at a rate of $12.00 per page.
Arrangements for more pages,
purchasing fewer than 70 copies, or a different pricing structure in general
may be negotiated between the Editors and Publisher. Please contact J. W. Moody at: jmoody@byu.edu or (801) 422-4347 for more
details.
Number of books _______x $55 = $___________
The
Editors will be asked to pay $2,000 to the Publisher within
30
days after the completion of the conference.
The balance due
will be paid within 30 days from the date the
Volumes are
shipped.
Payment may be made in advance of these dates if
desired, especially when fluctuating currency
rates are a concern
and it is advantageous to lock in the price
at the time of the
conference or when fiscal year-end constraints make
prepayment
desirable.
2. SHIPPING COSTS:
The Editors determine the method
of shipping volumes and collect the sum for shipping and handling for each
contributor and/or participant at the rates given below:
Within the
Surface
mail (2-4 weeks) = $12 per book
Rush
order (7 days maximum) = $17 per book
International:
First
Class International (average 2-4 weeks) = $25 per book
Priority
International Mail (average 6-10 days) = $35 per book
As of May 14, 2007, other forms of
international shipping were discontinued.
We have fewer problems with
international air mail although the exact time of
delivery depends greatly on the destination country, their customs regulations,
and the changing state of international affairs.
Books to be shipped international
air mail ______ x $25 = $________

The total cost of shipping is
estimated to be $___________.
3.
PREPARATION COSTS:
It is our intention to assist you
in any way possible to create a high-quality volume.
The ASPCS has a LATEX consultant who will answer
questions without charge regarding preparation of the manuscript before
submission.
After the manuscript is submitted
the volume is considered to be in the “manuscript stage”. At this stage we perform an aesthetic review
looking for problems with margins, figure resolutions and similar non-science
related items dealing with how the book looks.
The editors are expected to
correct any and all problems discovered at this stage. However, we also have a Technical Specialist
who helps prepare manuscripts for submission to the printer. If you require more help than normal or would
like us to do the LATEX typesetting
for you, we offer that service at a rate of $35 per hour.
Please decide now if you would
like to pay for help in compiling your book or if you would prefer to handle
the error corrections yourself. Please also be aware that if your submitted
volume needs an extraordinary amount of repair while in the manuscript stage then
you must either accept the responsibility for making the corrections or pay for
our time.
The additional preparation costs
are estimated to be $35 X ____ hours = $______________
4. ADDITIONAL OPTIONS:
In addition to the basic cost of
the volume the following options are available for an additional fee:
A. A color image on the front cover
may be purchased at a cost of $1,000.00.
B. Color figures may be purchased at
a cost that can vary from $95 to $500 per page depending on the number of books
ordered and the type of press chosen.
Color page charges are negotiated on a case-by-case basis. Estimate color page costs at $150 per page
for this application. The exact cost
will be determined before the contract is signed.
C. Editors who wish to have CD-ROMs
placed inside their books must
arrange for them
to be manufactured, placed in self-adhesive
envelopes, and
shipped to the printer, whose address can be
obtained from the
Publisher. The printer will hand insert
the
CD-ROMs into the books
at a cost of $2.00 per book. CD-ROMs
need to be provided for the entire printing
order, which is normally
about 400 volumes.
Color cover? (If yes, add
$1,000) $___________
Color figures ____ x $150 = $___________
CD-ROMs?
(If yes, add $800) $___________
