Abstract: High-resolution spacecraft instruments such as HiRISE (aboard NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter) and CaSSIS (aboard ESA’s ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter) benefit from careful, science-driven mission planning. The requirement to obtain data under specific viewing or geological conditions or to correlate data collection with previously acquired datasets can be met with a geographic information system (GIS). We show here how to adapt the open-source GIS tool JMARS for science-driven mission planning.
