Abstract: Tools that may be used for examining low signal/noise data will be described. The first example is sensitive detection of point sources even when in the background is so low that Gaussian statistics may not be applicable, such as the case in high energy astronomy. Algorithms will be described for estimating and fitting distributions of source samples when there ar3e marginal (e.g. <3 sigma ) detections without resorting to the assignation of upper limits. A spectrum fitting routine has been developed that can be used to estimate spectral parameters in very faint spectra where Xsquare statistics cannot be applied. Applications to EUVE and ROSAT data will be shown.
