Abstract: SPIKE is a mission planning software system developed by the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) for use with Hubble Space Telescope (HST). SPIKE has been developed for the purpose of automating observatory scheduling to increase their effective utilization and scientific return. In this paper, we describe the adaptation of SPIKE to the fourth Japanese X-ray astronomy satellite ASTRO-D. SPIKE has been successfully extended to handle both long-term and short-term scheduling for this mission.
