Abstract: Just over twenty years ago, a seemingly innocuous small-N problem arose for which, to my astonishment, no solution existed in the readily accessible scientific literature. In this talk, I review this and other problems that have arisen in the analysis of experiments in particle physics and how the Bayesian outlook has provided a coherent way both to think about them and provide reasonable solutions.
