Abstract: It is an exciting time to learn and study Astrobiology. The cross-disciplinary nature of Astrobiology makes it an ideal way to allow learners to apply and connect concepts across microscopic and macroscopic realms. I will present an OER (Open Educational Resources) textbook for an introductory Astrobiology course. Of all the benefits of OER, the simplest one to quantify is the cost savings that they provide to students, especially for community college students to whom the financial burden may be a prohibitive factor in course enrollment. Another benefit of OER is adaptability. The textbook is designed to be easily customized by instructors for a range of course goals in their Astrobiology class. Instructors have the ability to remix and edit material to suit their particular needs. Within the online textbook, interactive simulations and concept check points are included to keep students dynamically engaged.
