Abstract: Providing a safe, fun, and engaging space for the public was priority for many preparing for the solar eclipse. As the only national laboratory exclusively dedicated to understanding the sun, the National Solar Observatory provided educational materials focusing on solar and eclipse science. Nationwide reach was achieved through online videos that focused on three components: 1) introduction of a fundamental science concept; 2) demonstration of an outreach activity that relayed that concept; and 3) explanation by a solar expert of how that concept relates to their research. Video views were low to begin with, but significantly increased as the eclipse approached, with peak views and subscriptions in the days preceding the event. Based on views and subscriptions, we interpret these videos were of value to viewers.
