Abstract: We held free viewing of the 21 August 2017 solar eclipse at Joliet Junior College, Joliet, IL, USA for the college and the public. Attendees received free custom eclipse viewers. From Joliet, the eclipse was partial, with the Moon obscuring 88.4% of the Sun's disk at maximum eclipse. The weather was cloudy with occasional thinning of the clouds for most of the time before maximum eclipse. Fortunately, the clouds thinned sufficiently at maximum eclipse so that eclipse viewers could be used. The clouds dissipated slowly after that, allowing us to use our solar telescopes to view the Sun safely. At least 1500 people attended, and feedback was extremely positive. We feel that starting to plan early, involving relevant college faculty and staff from the beginning, organizing a free event with free viewers and having lots of volunteers are crucial to having a successful event. We feel confident that we can organize a similar event for the 2024 solar eclipse at Joliet Junior College. This eclipse will also be partial from Joliet, with 94.2% of the Sun occluded at maximum eclipse.
