Paper: The Great American Eclipse Posters
Volume: 516, Celebrating the 2017 Great American Eclipse: Lessons Learned from the Path of Totality

Authors: Nordgren, T.
Abstract: Thirty-one eclipse posters were created for communities along the path of totality across America. These posters draw on a long history of public-funded artwork to educate and inform the public about scientific and cultural events. In the days leading up to totality they played an important role in how communities marketed and celebrated their eclipse events. These designs were featured in national magazines, on network television news broadcasts, and are now being collected by the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.
