Abstract: The origin of the internal structure of planets is still an open question, with many details remaining to be understood. Heterogeneous accretion theory could explain the differentiation of the internal structure for Earth-like planets in a straightforward way. The possibility that the mantle may be formed by large planetesimals impacts onto the iron core is also actively debated.
