Abstract: Here we study the emission structures in the high resolution spectra of the active binary R Arae by constructing physical models involving a stream, a hot spot, and an accretion disk, in addition to the light contribution of the component stars. The possible models indicate that there is no single mechanism able to reproduce the emission in the spectra, but that different mechanisms may occur cyclically.
