Abstract: Although SDSS has delivered large samples of white dwarfs, the white dwarf population within the Galactic plane remains relatively unexplored. We show that VPHAS+ photometry can be used to effectively search for white dwarfs in both the field and clusters at low Galactic latitudes (|b|< 5°). Initial follow-up spectroscopy of 30 candidate white dwarfs has confirmed the viability of these selections and allows for the spectroscopic determination of white dwarf parameters. Preliminary results confirm 4 new white dwarfs in open clusters, while the majority belong to the field. The progenitor masses of the 4 white dwarfs in open clusters are compared to initial-to-final mass relationships from the literature.
