Abstract: Local galaxy pairs, selected on the basis of physical separation and controlled for differences in mass and sample observational limits, can provide a laboratory to investigate the star formation and dust properties in candidates for future mergers. In order to establish benchmarks for these merger candidates, we present a K-band luminosity function (LF) of galaxies in local pairs selected from a Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) and Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) matched catalog. A differential pair fraction displays nearly constant fraction of galaxy pairs as a function of galaxy mass. We also present the results of an infrared dust model analysis which yields dust mass and relative PAH content in the spiral components of the Spitzer observed pairs from the sample used to construct the LF. The relative PAH content in the spiral galaxies of the sample may be dependent upon the morphology of the galaxies' companions.
