Abstract: In this talk, we review the latest various formation scenarios of hot subdwarf stars, and propose two new formation channels, an envelope ejection channel for metal-rich stellar population and a tidally enhanced stellar wind channel for a small fraction of binary systems. We then discuss the implications of the formation scenarios for far-UV excess of elliptical galaxies, and predict that the far-UV excess does not depend much on metallicity if the metallicity is lower than solar, but increases with mellallicity if the metallicity is over solar.
