Abstract: Line-of-sight chromospheric (Ca II 854.2 nm) magnetograms from the Vector SpectroMagnetograph (VSM) of the Synoptic Optical Long-term Investigations of the Sun (SOLIS) project are used to study the latitude distribution of magnetic flux elements as a function of latitude in the polar solar caps. The data span the period from September 2003 till December 2009. The area density distribution of magnetic flux concentrations averaged over several months is found to decrease significantly close to the solar poles. These results are important for numerous solar phenomena (e.g., flux transport). Changes in the distribution of flux elements with the solar cycle are also discussed.
