Abstract: Bibliometric studies typically focus on citation and publication analysis. Due to recent advances in web technology along with greater access to web content, bibliometric research can include statistics and measures that were once difficult to obtain.

The European Southern Observatory’s Telescope Bibliography (ESO telbib), a content management system for refereed articles containing ESO data, provides an excellent test-bed for exploring next generation bibliometrics. Through web services provided by the NASA Astrophysics Data System (ADS) Abstract Service among others, previously unavailable information can be imported into telbib where it can be analyzed in further detail. Though some telbib features are still in their infancy, some interesting trends can already be derived.
