Abstract: With the computing power offered by the new generations of massively parallel mainframes, computational astrophysics is adressing problems of unprecedented complexity and size. Keeping pace in the post-treatment, analysis, and visualization stages is a challenging task. The Horizon cosmological simulation performed on the MareNostrum supercomputer, running on 2048 processors, has generated datasets with size reaching 200 GB per time step using the RAMSES code. The complexity inherent to this hybrid simulation, mixing together an N-body module for the description of dark matter and finite-volume elements computation using an octree-based adaptive mesh refinement technique for the description of baryonic matter, adds a layer of difficulty in terms of visualization. We report on results obtained in the interactive, three-dimensional visualization of these data with the SDvision software developed in the framework of IDL Object Graphics. Using desktop class hardware, a visual insight of all components of the simulation is obtained, from global, large-scale distributions down to fine-grained local details.
