Abstract: The Canadian effort for IYA2009 is highly ambitious. Planned programs and activities are intended to reach the widest possible audience. Among the most ambitious endeavor is the Astronomy Kit. Through a working group led by PPL, our IYA Canada Committee (IYACC) hopes to develop, manufacture, and distribute, a modest yet highly effective educational package to schools and special interest groups. Components of the Kit will be interactive, encourage creativity, help teach basic astronomical concepts, and have lasting value beyond 2009. Some components of the Kit will be e-based with distribution through established astronomical websites such as the Canadian Astronomical Society’s http://cascaeducation.ca, and through the new IYA Canada website, http://astronomy2009.ca. The working group has broad scope and includes representatives from high schools, colleges, the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC), the Fédération des Astronomes Amateurs du Québec, and Universities. Planning for the Kit is currently in high gear, and details of our progress will be discussed.
