Abstract: The unprecedented resolution of Chandra over past X-ray telescopes allows the first real study of resolved emission lines in cataclysmic variables. We used the HETG to observe the 0.4--10 keV (1.5--20Å) spectrum of the prototypical dwarf nova U Gem for 95 ks during quiescence on Nov 29/30, 2000. The high and medium resolution spectra, showing prominent narrow lines of Fe, Ne, Mg, Si, S, and O are presented along with a preliminary analysis of the implications of the line fluxes for the temperature and density conditions of the innermost accretion area in U Gem.
