Abstract: We present VLA HI observations of NGC 4406, an E/S0 galaxy with a highly asymmetric X-ray halo in the Virgo cluster. The HI strongly peaks south of the optical center, with faint emission extending to the east and northwest. We consider different scenarios for the origin of the HI and conclude that it has most likely cooled out of the hot gas.
