Abstract: The hypothesis that high-velocity clouds (HVCs) are Local Group satellites at typical distances of a few hundred kpc to 1.5 Mpc, and with HI masses ~ 107 Msolar, is highly inconsistent with (1) the results from blind HI surveys, (2) targeted surveys for intra-group HI clouds, and (3) QSO absorption line statistics.
