| Abstract: |
The existence and nature of low states of mass transfer in cataclysmic variables, particularly the magnetic systems, is reviewed. The orbital-period-maximum-depth relationship in polars is explicable in terms of lower average dot{M} at short Porb and the increased contribution of the secondary flux at longer Porb. |
