Abstract: We present results of non-LTE radiative transfer calculations for CO fundamental and v = 2-0 overtone lines, using the structure of a dynamical model for the dust shell around IRC+10216, which results from a consistent treatment of hydro-and thermodynamics, radiative transfer, chemistry and carbon grain formation. Compared to high resolution CO line spectra obtained at the KPNO Mayall 4m telescope, the P-Cygni emission components and the position and strength of the absorption cores agree well, implying that the model reproduces the dust optical depth, the outflow velocity, and the mass loss rate of IRC+10216.
