Abstract: As part of the worldwide MUSICOS campaign in November 1996 we obtained 24h high-resolution spectral coverage during 10 days of the O 7.5 giant xi Per, in order to search for the presence of non-radial pulsation and small magnetic fields. The relative importance of the pulsation andor corotating magnetic field as the cause for the cyclic wind variability, as observed in the majority of the early-type stars, is discussed.
